Magellan
Using pages from an old atlas to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition to circumnavigate the globe. It includes 4 map folds each with a Magellan quote- ‘The church says the earth is flat but I have seen its shadow on the moon and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church’ , ‘ Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart’ , ‘ The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible, but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore….. Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible… It is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavours…to meet with the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown. …. let us find our islands, to die far from home, far from anywhere familiar. Let us risk the wildest places, least we go down in comfort and despite.
